JULY 5th With Francis Wyatt
Music Therapy at SPROUTS!
Select SPROUTS! students spent a month working with Susan Gardstrom and Liz Crombie, Music Therapists from University of Dayton. Music therapy is a systematic process of intervention wherein a therapist helps the client to promote health - physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual - using a variety of music experiences and the relationship that develops between the therapist and the client.
The children in the SPROUTS music therapy program have a range of learning and emotional difficulties. Experiences in music listening, singing, playing instruments, and moving to music can help these young people become better listeners, extend their attention span, improve physical coordination, increase confidence, and develop appropriate social skills through collaborative music-making.

NEVER LET KIDS DO THIS
It's all about the kids
SPROUTS! is about the kids. It is about delivering substantial, high quality arts education to kids in a bad neighborhood in East Dayton.
For these children, Arts education is virtually nonexistent in the school system.

SPROUTS!
I'm the Executive Director of The Dunbar Institute, Inc. the non-profit arts org that presents SPROUTS! each year. It's a free arts ed program for at-risk kids in East Dayton, presented in partnership with a faith-based organization called KIND (Kids In New Directions). KIND ( www.kinddayton.org ) has provided food, sanctuary, recreation, transportation, dental care, and a host of other critical services to East Dayton youth for more than 22 years. The Dunbar Institute provides the arts education component (SPROUTS!) in partnership with KIND. This partnership between a faith-based social org and a secular arts org is reaching kids in one of the most distressed neighborhoods in our community.
