On July 5th, a select group from SPROUTS! performed at Memorial Church with Special Guest Artist Francis Wyatt. Francis is Minister of Music at Willow Creek Church in Chicago, one of the largest churches in the U.S. with more than 17,000 members.
The performance was a wonderful success!!
Select SPROUTS! students spent a month working with Susan Gardstrom and Liz Crombie, Music Therapists from University of Dayton. Music therapy is a systematic process of intervention wherein a therapist helps the client to promote health - physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual - using a variety of music experiences and the relationship that develops between the therapist and the client.
The children in the SPROUTS music therapy program have a range of learning and emotional difficulties. Experiences in music listening, singing, playing instruments, and moving to music can help these young people become better listeners, extend their attention span, improve physical coordination, increase confidence, and develop appropriate social skills through collaborative music-making.
